Kansas, Illinois & Indiana (Tornado) / 15,500 Meals Over 9 Days

Mar 12, 2012 | Deployments

In February, 2012, as many as 17 tornadoes ripped across the Midwest and caused widespread damage. Homes, churches and businesses were damaged and 17 fatalities were reported across six states. Operation BBQ Relief volunteers from the Kansas City area deployed to Harrisburg, Illinois and teamed up with 17th Street Bar & Grill to provide hot meals to displaced residents and first responders. Taylor Farms Smokehouse, which had previously worked with Operation BBQ Relief in Joplin, deployed to Marysville, Indiana. Additionally, Operation BBQ Relief teams responded in Harveyville, Kansas. This was the first time that Operation BBQ Relief had provided disaster relief in three states simultaneously.
